How to remove the plastic panel covering DVD drives, on DELL XPS 720?

It's a good desktop but the decorative plastic paneling which covers the drives is ridiculous and makes use inconvenient. Is there is a safe way to remove extra plastic covers (doors) that swing open when the tray slides out?
