How exactly does one take a product prototype to market?

More specifically...when a person has an idea for an invention and produces a prototype (for instance: something as simple as a frisbee) how do they get the product produced, then m produced, and then taken to market? I suppose my main question is how does the person get their simple idea for a product m produced? Are there specific factories that someone can contact and have someone somehow change the factory machinery to produce the new product? Who does one contact to do this and what is the process? It just seems like there are so many good ideas out there but so few people know how to get it manufactured and taken to market.
