Would you call this selfish...?

i've been with my bf for around a year now and he always calls himself selfish. I dont get how he can do this, he likes to spend time doing manly things with his housemates and just reading his metal mags but anytime im feeling down he is there for me, he holds me close when i cry and makes me feel so special and loved something that no one has ever done before, he always goes out of his way to try to make me feel special so how can he call himself selfish??
