Is calcitrol superior to cholecalciferol as a supplement to help in calcium absorption?

I am thinking that cholecalciferol needs to be converted to calcitrol in the kidneys. I also think that cholecalciferol is created from the hair, wool or feathers of animals. Please comment on the validity of thoughts.
